Mailing Lists Mailing lists in Maileon are always based on a contact filter and serve the purpose of specifying target groups for your emailings. When you prepare a mailing, the recipient specific part will begin with creation of one or more contact filters (unless already existing), then creation of a mailing list and finally you would link this list to your mailing.
Mailing List OverviewView the existing mailing lists for this account at a glance. The listing shows the list name, number of active contacts (in the list), their share of the overall portfolio, the list score (see Chapter „Lists & Contacts/ Contacts“), and possibly a warning referring to the list actuality. To the left you will find the usual checkbox for marking one ore more lists. There are 2 basic list types: Standard mailing lists, included in each new account: all contacts and all contacts with active status Custom mailing lists (created by account users) The result set of a contact filter is used as basis for a mailing list. This result may contain unsubscribes, deactivated contacts (CSA bounces) and contacts without a permission for receiving mailings. Such contacts cannot be used for a mailing and will be filtered prior to dispatch. In the column „Percentage total portfolio“ these contacts are displayed graphically (orange bar) and textually on mouseover: Like in „Lists & Contacts/ Contacts“, the „Contact Hits“ are displayed when clicking on the number of contacts. Please click the button „Create new mailing list“ to create a new list.
Create a Mailing ListFirst, please enter a name for the new list. Then select the contact filter to apply. The pencil symbol and the plus symbol to the right enable you to edit an existing filter or create a new one. The next line shows the resulting active contacts, followed by the information „the number of usable contacts may be different from the result set of the contact filtering because they may also contain blocked and unsubscribed contacts.“ Filter Criteria: here you can view once again how the final result set was attained, e.g. „select all contacts with active status“ etc. This is followed by the number of contacts, the coverage (share of total portfolio) and, if existing, the list score. When everything is fine, please click the button „Create mailing list“. You will now be back in the Mailing List Overview. If you see this icon to the right, please click it in order to refresh your list(s).
Test ListsYou can send test mails in the context of quality assurance (step 5 in the workflow „Creating an emailing“). Test mails can be mandatory if specified at „Settings/ Dispatches/ Quality assurance“. You can create test lists for such test mailings here. Please mind that the maximum possible quantity for test lists is 100 contacts. If you select more than 100 contacts, the system will randomly select 100. Test lists can be easily distinguished from mailing lists by the green icon (instead of a red one for mailing lists). Please click the button „create test list“ to create a new list. List generation itself is not differing from creation of a „real“ mailing list. You can also test trigger mailings (triggered by contact events) this way. Furthermore it is possible to integrate personalization into a test mailing which will be correctly displayed unless there is information missing for some contacts. Nevertheless you can run the test since a fallback will be displayed for contacts with missing information. Like for regular mailing lists you need to enter a name and select a contact filter to be applied.
Default ListsDefault lists will be added to each regular mailing automatically. Please mind that the maximum possible quantity for default lists is 100 contacts as well. If you select more than 100 contacts, the system will randomly select 100. Default lists make sense if your regular mailings should be sent to a chosen group of persons every time, such as colleagues, editors, supervisors etc. The creation process for default lists is the same as for mailing lists.
BlacklistsBlacklists contain recipients you are not allowed to send a mailing to. There is a default list „Global Blacklist“ in each new account (Owner: XQueue GmbH). This blacklist blocks dispatch to bouncers and spam traps and is continuously updated by XQueue. The global blacklist is valid across all accounts and cannot be modified or deleted by account users.
Blacklist Overview (Homepage)The overview shows the list names, the owner (normally XQueue or your account for custom lists), their status (active/ inactive), the number of flagged terms and the number of contact hits (number of contacts affected). Flagged terms are individual criteria on which a blacklist is based. These can be domains/ subdomains or single email addresses. Please click the button „Create new blacklist“ to create a new list.
Creating a New Blacklist
General SettingsHere you specify the parameters for the blacklist. Please enter a name and then select whether the list should be active or inactive after creation. You can create inactive blacklists for future use and activate them by selecting „active“ once you wish to deploy them. Just go to Blacklist Overview and click the linked list name to edit a custom blacklist.
Flagged TermsHere you can view the existing flagged terms or, when creating a new list, add new terms. The 3 icons to the right allow certain actions:
- „Plus“ icon: enables you to add flagged terms (also possible using the green button „Create new flagged term“)
- „CSV“ icon: allows importation of CSV file containing flagged terms
- „X“ button: previously marked terms can be removed using this button
